Bungle’s Subaru Impreza STI

2002 Subaru Impreza STI Blob-Eye

Low mileage - just 52,000 miles - highly modified Impreza, massive spec!

2002 Subaru Impreza STI ‘Blob-Eye’ (JDM car with the 2.0 litre engine) with just 52,000 miles on the clock!
Originally imported into the UK when the car was nearly new and covering just 52,000 miles at the time of writing this, this awesome Scooby has been with the previous owner for the past couple of years during which time he has put blood, sweat and tears - not to mention around £14,000.00 (backed up with a folder full of receipts for most of it) - into the car to produce what you see here today!
No wonder he had a tear in his eye when I drove off in it! But sad news for him is good news for you as you now have the chance to win this stunner for just £9.50!
Driving it home took me back years, I haven’t driven anything Japanese since my old Silvia PS13 a decade ago! Cruising back to base with the loud exhaust, blow-off valve whooshing and the bass pumping was great and I had a massive grin on my face the whole trip back. The car gets a lot of attention with questions being asked in the petrol station (Shell VPower obviously) as well as plenty of thumbs up from other road users too.
First thing that hit me was how tractable the car is, a testament to Richard at Zen Performance who carried out the mapping, the thing pulls cleanly and hard throughout the rev range. I was especially impressed with how quickly the turbo spools up with hardly any lag, this being partly attributed to the twin-scroll turbo set-up on the JDM spec. cars. Looking at it, you’d expect it to have a rock-hard ride and whilst it does feel pretty firm around town, it is not uncomfortable and once up to speed it is perfectly comfortable whilst giving rock solid control courtesy of the Tein coilovers, Whiteline anti-roll bars, drop links and lateral links, Powerflex bushes and those sticky Yokohama AD08RS tyres.
Another thing that hit me is just how fast it is! 400-420bhp doesn’t sound a lot in these days of the 600+ BHP saloon car, so, though I was expecting the car to be fast, I wasn’t expecting it to be THIS fast. I suppose what I forgot is just how much weight these modern day cars are carrying around with their 600bhp, this Scooby however, weighs in at approximately 1350kg which means a power to weight ratio of around 311bhp/tonne and that’s a lot.
The car is in absolutely beautiful condition and it really is a testament to the previous owner. Having had the front bumper and wing re-sprayed, he was not happy with the colour match up so sent the car back to have both sides re-painted too and this attention to detail and seemingly ‘money no object’ attitude can be found throughout the car from his choice of high end parts (including the extremely rare and expensive ‘Gurney flap’ on the rear wing) right through to the smaller details such as the flip paint brake calipers and the gorgeous Mishimoto wheel lugs.
Anyway, enough of me waxing lyrical about it, check out the spec. list below!!
